Qualifications for Required for Applicants

To be eligible to apply for a master's program at YU, you must possess a bachelor's degree or have completed a total of 16 years of formal study. To be admitted as a doctoral student, you must possess a master's degree or its equivalent. Individuals seeking a doctoral degree in medical science must complete a total of 18 years of formal study and majored in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or veterinary medicine at the last institution attended. In Addition to these conditions, each program have their own supplementary requirements. For more detail, refer to the application guidelines of each program.

There are two steps towards admission at YU: initial screening for eligibility to apply and an on-site entrance examination that follows. Although it varies from department to department, initial screening is usually conducted twice a year, early summer and early winter, for applicants to choose from. The on-site entrance examination is comprised of an interview, a written test, other tests or a combination of these depending on the requirements of each academic department. Graduate School of Social and Cultural Systems (GSSCS):

  • Majors are Cultural Systems and Social Systems.
    You can take the degree of Master of Arts or Master of Arts in Policy Studies.

Graduate School of Regional Education, Art and Science (GSREAS):

  • Majors are Clinical Psychology and Art and Culture.
    You can take the degree of Master of Clinical Psychology or Master of Art and Culture.

Professional School of Education (PSE):

  • The Major is Teacher Training.
    You can take the degree of Master of Education (Professional).

Graduate School of Medical Science (GSMS):

  • Majors of master's course are Innovative Medical Science Research and Nursing.
    You can take the degree of Master of Medical Science or Master of Nursing Science.
  • Majors of doctoral course are Medicine, Innovative Medical Science Research and Nursing.
    You can take the degree of Doctor or Philosophy (Medicine), Doctor of Philosophy (Medical Science), Doctor of Philosophy (Nursing Science).

Graduate School of Science and Engineering (Science track) (GSSES):

  • The major of master's course is Science.
    You can take the degree of Master of Science.
  • The major of doctoral course is Interactive Symbiosphere Sciences.
    You can take the degree of Doctor of Science.

Graduate School of Science and Engineering (Engineering track) (GSSEE):

  • Majors of master's course are Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bio-System Engineering, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Systems Engineering and Management of Technology.
    You can take the degree of Master of Engineering.
  • Majors of doctoral course are Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering and Informatics, Mechanical Systems Engineering and Management of Technology.
    You can take the degree of Doctor of Engineering or Doctor of Philosophy.

Graduate School of Organic Materials Science (GSOMS):

  • The major of master’s course is Organic Material Science.
    You can take the degree of Master of Engineering.
  • The major of doctoral course is Organic Material Science.
    You can take the degree of Doctor of Engineering.

Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences (GSAS):

  • Majors are Bioproduction Science, Bioresource Science and Bioenvironmental Science.
    You can take the degree of Master of Agriculture.
