This course corresponds to study objective (B) for students in Mechanical Systems Engineering.
【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Classes will be taught in lecture style. Each week, we will work on practice TOEIC problems through various kinds of activities.
・日程
The first class will consist of a general orientation. You will be separated into different classes according to your TOEIC score from the previous semester, but you may change to another teacher’s class as long as the class is held for their major.
From the second class on, we will review practice TOEIC problems during the class through a variety of useful activities such as listening and reading paragraphs. There will be a short vocabulary quiz once every two weeks and a writing assignment due without a vocabulary quiz. Practice TOEIC problems will also be assigned for homework each week.

You are expected to actively participate in class each week, complete homework assignments, and take the TOEIC in December. There will be a final exam held at the end of the semester as well.

・授業時間外学習へのアドバイス
You are expected to study for vocabulary quizzes and complete short writing assignments in alteration. In addition, you will sometimes be assigned practice TOEIC problems for homework.
【成績の評価】
・基準
Your score on the TOEIC will account for 30% of your grade and the rest of your grade will be evaluated according to class participation, completion of homework, your score on the weekly vocabulary quizzes, and a final exam.
・方法
Grades will be calculated in the following fashion:
Class participation: 30 pts.
TOEIC-IP Score: 30 pts.
Vocabulary quizzes: 10 pts.
Homework assignments: 10 pts.
Final exam: 20 pts.

It is impossible to learn English only from going to class and reading your textbook. If you truly want to learn English, you must spend time every day using English. I suggest that you try to read and listen to English every day and try to keep a daily journal in English. If you only study from your textbook, you will get bored with English very quickly. Also, please try joining English learning activities at the Faculty of Engineering International Center such as English Lunch Chat, Movie Night, and Board Game Night. Do your best to make learning English as fun as possible, so that you will not give up easily!
