This course will help students develop the basic skills and techniques necessary for translation and interpretation.

While introducing students to the basic principles of translation and interpretation, this course will provide them with tasks that will allow them to develop basic translation and interpretation skills and techniques. Students will undertake both Japanese-to-English and English-to-Japanese translation work, and in addition to tasks that they will complete on an individual basis, they will also engage in small group discussions to further develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Thorough preparation will allow students to get the most out of this class.

Grades will be based upon weekly tasks and a final translation assignment.
