【授業の目的】
In this class, students will develop their overall communicative ability with an emphasis on speaking. In addition to speaking tasks, other communicative functions such as listening and writing will be included to develop overall skill.

This is a small group discussion class. Students will be required to debate/discuss topics specific to science, medicine or technology.

Students at this level can speak extensively about their own personal experiences using a wide variety of expressions. Students can express their viewpoint and agree or disagree on common issues.

【学習の方法】
・受講のあり方
You will be given a discussion topic that you must be able to describe your opinion and ask others by using the phrases (provided handout). You will have 3-4 topic discussions with different members of the class each lasting 10-15 minutes.
・授業時間外学習へのアドバイス
Students will need to research the topic outside of class and bring that information to put together their speaking scripts.

【成績の評価】
・基準
Each group discussion will be worth 35 POINTS. While you are talking, the teacher will be grading you. You will be graded on how many times and how well you use the provided debate phrases.
・方法
Discussions 90%
Final report 10%

Example:
(Discussion scores total / # of presentations) / 35 = Final score %
 e.g. (24+28+32+29+30 / 5) / 35 = 82%

Attending a minimum of 2/3 of classes is required. Failure to do so will result in a score of 0 for the course.
