【授業の目的】
English (G) places an emphasis on English reading comprehension. In addition, a student’s overall practical English abilities will be developed.

The course will use reading topics from medical, science or technology. The goal is for you to increase your science and medical vocabulary and listening.

Students at this level can understand articles containing technical vocabulary about science, lifestyle, culture and social issues. Students can express their opinions using a wide range of vocabulary and a clear logical structure.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Students will first listen several times to a 3-4 minute program about a current science topic. Volunteers will be asked to answer the comprehension questions before the listening transcript is given to all the students to listen to again. Ten vocabulary words will be highlighted in each transcript for students to practice writing their own sentences. The following class students will have a quiz on the topic.

Week 3. Quiz 1 / Topic 2 (e.g. energy drinks)
Week 4. Quiz 2 / Topic 3 (e.g. gut bacteria)
Weeks 5-15 (will follow the above pattern)

Most lessons will have a short video connected to each topic.
・授業時間外学習へのアドバイス
To increase motivation, students should watch movies, listen to music or read news in English.

【成績の評価】
・基準
There will be a short 10 point quiz every week consisting of vocabulary and comprehension questions learned the previous week.
・方法
Your grade will be based on the following items:

*Quizzes (10 quizzes): 80% *(your total quiz score /total # of quiz points)
TOEIC score 20%

Students with poor attendance will have difficulty passing the course. Students who miss 1/3 or more of the class will automatically receive a “0” as their final score.
