In “English Communication Skills B,” you will improve your English speaking and writing skills and gain confidence in using English. It is NOT required that you attended English Communication Skills A.

The goal of this class is for you to improve your English vocabulary and to advance your English speaking/writing skills.

【科目の位置付け】
It is mandatory to attend at least one English class during your second year at the University. Additional classes are on a voluntary basis. You can choose between Basic Skills, English Communication Skills, English for Science and Engineering, and English Through Multimedia.
【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Students are encouraged to give a presentation about a specific topic at the beginning of each class, which we will then debate. Additionally, each week you will practice using English through a variety of activities.
・日程
You can select which English class you want to attend (English Communication Skills, English for Science and Engineering, Basic English, English through Multimedia). It is NOT required that you attended English Communication Skills A to attend this course.
In English Communication Skills B, we will practice English by doing debates and a variety of fun activities such as group work, reading books and watching movies. There will be a short vocabulary quiz once every two weeks and a writing assignment due every week without a vocabulary quiz.

You are expected to actively participate in class each week and to complete every homework assignment.
・授業時間外学習へのアドバイス
You are expected to study for vocabulary quizzes and complete homework assignments once every two weeks in alteration.
【成績の評価】
・基準
Your grade will be evaluated based on class participation, homework, vocabulary quizzes, and your presentation/debate.
・方法
Grades will be calculated in the following fashion:
Homework: 20 pts.
Short quizzes: 20 pts.
Class participation: 40 pts.
Debate/Presentation: 20 pts.

English learning can be fun! If you really want to improve your English skills, you should try using it in your daily life: watch movies in English, read books in English, or just try to talk to your friends in English. You can also join the English activities at the Faculty of Engineering International Center such as Daily English Conversation, Movie Night, and Board Game Night. Studying English can be fun, let’s try some interesting ways to improve your English in this class!
