Professor of Orthopedic surgery

TAKAGI Michiaki

Boosting the long-term performance of hip replacement surgeries.

I am doing research to boost the long-term performance of hip replacement surgeries.

My research is about devising surgery methods, developing or improving artificial joints, and studying the bioreactivity of artificial joints. Complications of joint replacement surgery include loosening, dislocation and infection. Going forward, I would like to carry out research particularly on the treatment and prevention of infections.

I have been carrying out joint research with Stanford University and the University of Helsinki for the past 10 years. I hope to further develop such joint international research.

The orthopedics team that I belong to carries out research while valuing an atmosphere that enables us to study cheerfully, freely and without constraint.

I tell my students that it is important to look into and think deeply about questions that arise when learning and trying new things.

I want to nurture benevolent physicians with a mind for research.
