【授業概要】
・テーマ
English (C) aims to help students to improve basic communication skills such as listening, conversation and written composition.
・到達目標
By the end of course, students will improve their skills and vocabulary and be able to enable smooth communication. Specifically, they should be able to:
Listening: understand sentences of a reasonable length, provided speech is slow.
Speaking: talk about familiar topics without undue effort; have a short conversation.
Writing: write simple phrases and sentences about their environment.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
In this class students will work in groups, and have no constrains in the topics they will talk in between class exercises as long as they do so in English.Class exercises will be completed cooperatively, so as to create a relaxed environment that facilitates learning.Additional materials on academic topics will be provided to practice learned skills.This is a student-oriented intermediate level class.
・日程
Week 1: Orientation.
Week 2 - Week 8: Listening (sound links, listening for main ideas and supporting details, making outlines)
Week 9 - Exam 1 (test).
Week 10- Week 12: Speaking
Week 13 -Week 14: Presentation preparations
Week 15: Exam 2 (Final Presentation).
【学習の方法】
・受講のあり方
Students are allowed to speak with their group mates in English on any topic. Japanese conversation is allowed only to clarify class related issues.Phone calls are not allowed. However, messages can be briefly checked, in case there is an emergency.
・授業時間外学習へのアドバイス
Reference materials for self-study will be suggested.Practicing with these material can improve students performance in class.
【成績の評価】
・基準
Evaluation will be based on a 100 points scale, later translated into a categorical scale (S, A, B, C, F). Students must attend 2/3 (10) of the classes in order to receive credits.
・方法
TOEIC 20%, Exams 50%, In-Class quizzes 10%, Class participation 20%.
