【授業概要】
・テーマ
English (R) aims to help students improve their reading skills. Another goal is for students to learn new content using English as a learning tool based on the in class methodology.
・到達目標
By the end of course, students will improve basic skills and vocabulary necessary for parsing with accuracy and efficiency logical sentences on a range of topics. They should be able to understand with a good degree of accuracy sentences containing common vocabulary and whose content covers familiar matters such as society, culture and the sciences. They should be able to understand straightforward factual sentences on subjects related to their field of study and personal interests with a satisfactory level of comprehension. In addition, they should be able to identify the main conclusions in clearly signalled argumentative texts.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
This course will use material downloaded from the Voice of America website. All listening and reading material will be specific to world events, history and society topics. Students will first listen several times to a 3-4 minute program about a current science topic. Volunteers will be asked to answer the comprehension questions before the listening transcript is given to all the students to listen to again. Ten vocabulary words will be highlighted in each transcript for students to practice writing their own sentences. The following class students will have a quiz on the topic.

Note: Generally, there will be between 10-14 quizzes.

Students should write all 10 sentences in class for each vocabulary word and allow the teacher to correct your mistakes before each each quiz.

【成績の評価】
・基準
Grades will be based on the Quiz average and TOEIC score.
・方法
Your grade will be based on the following items:

*Quizzes (10 quizzes): 80% (your total quiz score /total # of quiz points)
TOEIC score 20%

• Students with poor attendance will have difficulty passing the course. Students who miss 1/3 or more of the class will automatically receive a “0” as their final score.
