【授業概要】
・テーマ
English (C) aims to help students to improve basic communication skills such as listening, conversation and written composition.
・到達目標
By the end of course, students will improve communication skills and vocabulary, enabling efficient communication and providing them with the ability to deal with a wide range of topics. Specifically, they should be able to:
Listening: understand everyday conversation without undue effort.
Speaking: describe clearly a wide range of subjects referring in the main to personal experiences; express agreement or disagreement in an everyday discussion.
Writing: write sentences of a reasonable length about their environment.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
A Communicative Language Teaching methodology will be used in which students will engage in conversations about interesting topics that include history, pop-culture, world news and others. The students will learn relevant and useful vocabulary and phrases as well as participate in English- only discussions within small groups.

Students will be able to choose discussion topics from a list.

【成績の評価】
・基準
Grades will be determined by the schematic below. The midterm and final evaluations will consist of a timed group conversation with a focus on communicative competence.
・方法
20% TOEIC, 10% Class Participation, 20% Quizzes and homework, 25% Midterm Conversation, 25% Final Conversation.
*Students missing 1/3 of the classes will automatically receive a final score of ‘0’

【テキスト・参考書】
No textbook is necessary. I will provide all necessary materials to be photocopied and distributed to the students in class. Students will vote on a topic from a list of topics, and will be given materials relevant to that topic including useful vocabulary and phrases, as well as a short article that includes discussion questions.

・学生へのメッセージ
This class will focus on communicative competence and fluency. Students will be expected to participate in an English-only environment and are encouraged to have an open mindset and not worry about making grammatical mistakes. In this class, successful communication will be more important than grammatical accuracy.
