In this class, students will develop their overall communicative ability with an emphasis on listening. In addition to listening tasks, other communicative functions such as speaking and writing will be included to develop overall skill.

Students at this level can understand reasonably long utterances if spoken slowly and clearly.

Communicative Language Teaching methodology will be utilized where students will practice listening to, and using English for authentic communication in groups and pairs with a focus on learning useful patterns and phrases.

Students will choose the topics they wish to study in the first class.

Please come to class prepared and on time.

You will need a dedicated notebook for this class and you should review your notes before each lesson.

Grades will be determined based on the criteria below. The midterm and final evaluations will consist of timed pair and group conversations with a focus on communicative fluency.

Midterm evaluation 35%, Final evaluation 35%, Quizzes and Homework 10%, Class participation 20%.

*Attending a minimum of 2/3 of classes is mandatory and those who fail to do so will be given 0 points for the course.

There is no required textbook for this class, but a good electronic dictionary is highly recommended.

The focus of this class is on developing listening fluency. Students are expected to participate in an all-English environment and are encouraged to try their best and not worry about making mistakes.
