【授業の目的】
In “Academic Skills: Scientific Presentations + Writing,” we will learn how to use English/Japanese effectively for scientific purposes. This course will teach the usage of English and Japanese in academic presentations and academic writing. The course will focus on phrases as well as smart presentation techniques. Examples of such are meaningful comparisons, figures, and labels.
この講義では、科学的・学術的な文書・プレゼンテーションにおいて、どのように英語／日本語を使うかを学びます。表現方法、文章構成、プレゼンテーション技法（図表の作成方法などを含む）などが対象です。

【科目の位置付け】
This course is not a mandatory course, but recommended for graduate students to improve their overall scientific skills.
【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Classes will be taught in lecture style with some practical/group activities. The class of Group (1) will be held partly in English and partly in Japanese, and the class of Group (2) will be held in Japanese. The class is scheduled to take place every two weeks.

5th – 6th class: Scientific Presentations
7th – 8th class: Presentation Practice

You are expected to actively participate in class each week and to complete given assignments.

【成績の評価】
・基準
Your grade will be evaluated based on class participation, assignment completion, and a final report/presentation.
・方法
Grades will be calculated in the following fashion:
Assignments: 30 pts.
Class participation: 30 pts.
Final report/presentation: 40 pts.

Jiptner: To become a good researcher, you should practice presentations and write/read academic papers as often as you get a chance. Additionally, a necessary Academic Skill is English. If you really want to improve your English skills, you should try using it in your daily life: watch movies in English, read books in English, or just try to talk to your friends in English. You can also join the English activities at the Faculty of Engineering International Center such as Daily English Conversation, Movie Night, and Board Game Night.
落合：研究を他者に理解してもらうには、正確かつ明瞭に説明できなければいけません。この講義ではグループワークを通してこの能力を養います。単に講義を聴くだけでなく、積極的に講義に参加して実践的に能力を高めていって下さい。
