This class focuses on using the English skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The goal of this class is to improve your English communication skills, especially speaking and listening, presentation skills, and critical thinking. In the class, we will look more at conversational English and using authentic communication.

It is not required that you take Communication Skills A, and you can take both Communication Skills A and B if you like.

By taking this class, you will gain confidence in using English to communicate; you will learn how to hold a conversation in English; you will be able to speak about many topics in various ways.

Course to help students acquire basic English communication skills.

This class focuses on practical English skills such as speaking and listening. Students will talk about various topics each week. Over the semester, you will complete a project where you will use your English skills authentically.

Week 1: Orientation
Weeks 2-9: Different conversational topics each week with an assignment. Project will start during this time.
Week 10: Mid-project presentation.
Week 11-14: Continue project with usual class.
Week 15: Final presentation.

You are expected to actively participate in class each week and to complete every homework assignment. You are not required to take the TOEIC test.

Please complete homework assignments and preparation for the project. Be active in group work.

You will be evaluated based on class participation, assignments, project materials and presentations.

Assignments: 20 pts
Participation/Activities: 30 pts
Final project: 50 pts

Textbooks will be announced in class. They will be available in 生協 at the beginning of the semester.

I hope that through this class, you can learn to USE English, using what you already know but may have forgot. I hope you can enjoy using English so that you will keep using it in the future.
