To empower students’ English vocabulary, grammar, and listening and reading skills for the TOEIC L&R.
To empower basic writing skills on daily and social topics.

To improve students’ basic English skills to the point required at the university level, and also to improve students’ TOEIC L&R score.

【学生主体型授業（アクティブラーニング）について】
A-1．ミニッツペーパー、リフレクションペーパー等によって、自分の考えや意見をまとめ、文章を記述し提出する機会がある。：1～25％
B-1．学生同士の話し合いの中で互いの意見に触れる機会がある。：1～25％
C-1．自分の意見をまとめて発表する機会がある。：1～25％
A-2．小レポート等により、事前学習（下調べ、調査等含む）が必要な知識の上に思考力を問う形での文章を記述する機会がある。：1～25％
A-3．習得した知識を活用する中で、学生自身がテーマや目的などを主体的に定めて課題探究型学習を行い、その成果を記述する機会がある。：1～25％
【科目の位置付け】
It is required to attend at least one English class during the second year at university. You can choose from Basic English Skills, English Communication Skills, and English for Science and Engineering. Basic English Skills is the course to help students acquire basic English communication skills and improve their TOEIC L&R score.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Classes will be taught in lecture style. Pair work, group activity and presentation will be also adopted if necessary.
・日程
The first class will be an orientation.
In Basic English Skills B, each class consists of three parts. The first part is for basic skills such as vocabulary, news & topics and conversation. The second part is for listening and reading skills mainly for TOEIC L&R. The third part is for basic reading writings on daily and social topics.
There will be a short vocabulary quiz every week. The students are required to take the designated TOEIC-ip test in December. There will be a final exam at the end of the semester.

Students are expected to actively participate in class activities each week and prepare for TOEIC L&R.
・授業時間外学習（予習・復習）のアドバイス
Students are supposed to prepare for the vocabulary quiz, review the Unit of the textbook and study for the TOEIC L&R at home.
【成績の評価】
・基準
Students’ grade will be evaluated based on class activities, vocabulary quizzes, writings, assignments, the TOEIC L&R score, and the final exam.

Your grade will be calculated as follows:
Activities and vocabulary quizzes: 20
Writings and Assignments: 20
TOEIC-ip score: 30
Final exam: 30
