【授業の目的】
学生諸君の今後の学習では理系の英文を読む必要がでてくる。“English for Science and Engineering B” では、主に物理分野の英文を題材にして、自信を持って英文が読めるようになる具体的な手法を学ぶ。英語力の根幹は、基本的な文法と語彙であるから、単語力の増強にも特に力を入れる。また上記を土台として、英語でのプレゼンテーション発表力の養成も図る。前期に “English for Science and Engineering A”（主に化学分野）を履修していることが望ましいが、必須ではない。
【授業の到達目標】
理系の英文を読むのに必要な語彙力を身につける。あやふやな点を残さずに理系の英文を自信を持って解釈できる英文読解力を身に着ける。
その語彙力と読解力を基本に、明晰で構造化された英文を書き、それを使ってわかりやすい英語プレゼンテーションができる。

【学生主体型授業（アクティブラーニング）について】
A-1．ミニッツペーパー、リフレクションペーパー等によって、自分の考えや意見をまとめ、文章を記述し提出する機会がある。：1～25％
B-1．学生同士の話し合いの中で互いの意見に触れる機会がある。：51～75％
C-2．事前学習（下調べ、調査等含む）をした上で、プレゼンテーションを行い、互いに質疑応答や議論を行う機会がある。：26～50％

Course to help students acquire basic international communication and research skills.
【授業計画】
・授業の方法
英語語彙の習得と英文理解の具体的な手法を中心に授業を行う。
授業に辞書は必須である。紙辞書、電子辞書、アプリ辞書、オンライン辞書いずれでもよいが、信頼できるものを持ってくること。
予習は各人の実力などに合わせてよいので必須ではない。ただし毎回授業の最初に前時の復習テスト（語彙中心）を実施するので、復習は必須である。英語プレゼンテーション発表会を２回、中間と期末の２回の定期試験を実施する予定であるが、いずれも２回目を重視する。
・日程
1st class: Introduction
2nd - 14th class: Learning of scientific vocabulary and other English activities
(7th or 8th class: mid-term test)
15th class: Final test
There will be a vocabulary quiz every week and occasional short writing assignments.
TOEIC will not be the main focus of this class.

You are expected to actively participate in class each week and to complete every homework assignment.
・授業時間外学習（予習・復習）のアドバイス
Please study for vocabulary quizzes and complete all homework assignments.
In addition, try to use English in your daily life, especially in activities that you personally enjoy (games, books, movies...)
【成績の評価】
・基準
Your grade will be evaluated based on class participation, assignments, short quizzes and final/midterm examinations.
・方法
Grades will be calculated in the following fashion:
Presentations/Assignments: 20 pts.
Short quizzes: 20 pts.
Class participation: 20 pts.
Final & Midterm test: 40 pts.

English learning can be fun! If you really want to improve your English skills, you should try using it in your daily life – watch movies in English, read books in English, or just try to talk to your friends in English. You can also join the English activities at the Faculty of Engineering International Center such as Daily English Conversation, Movie Night, and Board Game Night.
