Student’s overall practical English abilities will be developed while putting emphasis on reading comprehension and grammatical knowledge.

Students can understand social, cultural, lifestyle and scientific topics written and spoken in English with technical vocabulary. Students can express their opinions using a wide range of vocabulary and a clear logical structure in speech and writing.

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Through participating in and leading discussions and reflecting on them, students expand their English vocabulary, improve their English listening and comprehension ability, improve their paragraph writing ability, and develop their thinking about topics. Supplementary speaking activities improve their general English-speaking ability.

【学習の方法・準備学修に必要な学修時間の目安】
・受講のあり方
1. Discussions about Assigned Topics As homework students find an article / video related to the assigned topic and complete a worksheet of questions. In the classroom students discuss the topic in pairs or groups and write a reaction about what they learned from other students. 2. My Discussion Activity Students select a topic they are interested in, write an introduction to the topic and discussion questions and then lead discussions about the topic. 3. Choose a Discussion Activity Students choose a discussion topic with questions and lead a discussion about it. 4. Supplementary Activities

The preparation time for a class is estimated to be 1 hour a week to complete the discussion question worksheet.

・方法
This is a participation class, so missing a class will negatively affect a student’s grade. You may be failed if you do not attend 2/3 or more of the classes.

E-learning software has been chosen to support TOEIC® preparation as part of English 1 studies. This study software offers practice and learning in all fields of English language study, including vocabulary, expressions and grammar. We suggest continued progress, completing a few lessons on a weekly basis.
