【授業の目的】
In this class, students will develop their overall practical English ability with an emphasis on reading comprehension and writing skills. In addition to reading tasks, other communicative functions such as listening and speaking will be included to develop overall skills.

1. Students will be able to discuss various social, cultural, lifestyle, and scientific topics in written and spoken English. (知識・理解)
2. Students will be able to express their opinions using a wide range of vocabulary and a clear, logical structure in both speech and writing.(知識・理解)
3. Students will be able to build positive relationships with their classmates and communicate with them in English on professional topics.(知識・理解)
4. Students will be able to write reflection papers following a standard essay format.(知識・理解)

【授業計画】
・授業の方法
Classes will focus on discussions related to the students’ field of study. During in-person sessions, students will engage in various activities that draw on their experiences and real-life examples to enhance their speaking fluency in an all-English environment. Students will evaluate their own speaking performance, write a reflection paper after each lesson, and compile a writing portfolio.

【学習の方法・準備学修に必要な学修時間の目安】
・受講のあり方
I. Students are expected to do independent research on the topic that is coming up next on their own.
II. Students are expected to use English throughout the class.
III. Students are expected to ask questions when they don’t know or don’t understand something.
IV. In class there will be a good amount of group and pair work based on tasks given by the instructor or chosen by the students.
V. Students are expected to utilize their own knowledge and avoid relying on AI such as Chat GPT.

1. An estimated amount of time for preparation and review of each lesson will be 1.5 hours a week.
2. Students are required to complete homework assignments.
3. Students are highly recommended to get a better grasp of the topics learned in class by accessing related material in the University library or on the Internet.

5. You may fail if you do not submit more than 30% of your homework or if you do not attend 2/3 or more of classes.
