1 Developing student questionnaires

The result of FD must be returned to students. Student questionnaires are being used all over Japan. TSUBASA supports the higher educational institutions of East Japan in conducting a survey in the form of a questionnaire.

2 Classroom observations and forums

Teachers observe other teachers' classes. Afterwards, they discuss the contents and teaching methods. Yamagata University built the Leading Learning Laboratory, which is financially supported by the government. Students can make full use of the most advanced information technology and interactive classroom facilities.

3 Conducting workshops and symposiums

We invite lecturers who have expertise in FD, and hold panel discussions where representatives of every university, college or junior college can report on their circumstances and gain insights from their colleagues. Symposiums are held as well where teachers discuss their teaching methods in classes.

4 FD summer camp

Teachers in participating institutes stay together for workshops in a seminar house on Mt. Zao, a mountain resort well-known for its skiing, hiking and hot springs. They discuss how to improve general education, and engage in practical exercises like designing syllabuses, which encourages professional competition. FD summer camp provides an invaluable opportunity to form close relationships and exchange opinions with teachers of other universities, colleges and junior colleges.

5 Individualized FD (Course Improving Clinics)

Course Improving Clinics taught by FD experts address individual needs in actual educational situations, encouraging mutual training to improve their performance in classes. The practice of FD thus provides professional, individual, and other integrated support for classroom development.

6 Web FD

TSUBASA uses the Internet for FD activities. Through websites and mailing lists, we share various information about FD such as student questionnaires, classroom observations and forums, intensifying the exchange of information in TSUBASA.

7 Student Monitors' Meetings

We invite students to monitor our FD activities in an effort to understand students' opinions directly. Monitors hold a Students FD Conference to express their opinions on TSUBASA activities.

8 FD Joint Conference

We organize an FD Joint Conference. Each university, college or junior college has its own expertise and different needs for FD. We share the results of our FD activities, and use them to face new FD challenges. Following recommendations from the overall advisory committee, TSUBASA forms an integrated network to generate continuous educational development with all participants reaping the benefits of this creative cycle.
