This course covers topics in the area of medicine and nursing that are currently assuming increasing importance in Japan, as well as of life sciences actively investigated in Yamagata University. The Japanese society is now rapidly aging. This gives rise to socio-medical problems relatively unique to Japan, including the potential threat of life style-related diseases such as cancer. In this course, such problems are addressed from the perspective of both medicine and nursing. Emphasis is placed on the molecular biology, pathology, immunology and surgical treatment for cancer. Yamagata University is well renowned for its high-level emergency medicine, life science research and Surgery. Introductory lectures on cutting-edge topics in the field of life sciences are therefore included in this course. I hope you will have a nice time and be successful in our course.
