This course covers topics in the area of medicine and nursing that are
currently assuming increasing importance in Japan, as well as of life sciences

rapidly aging. This gives rise to socio-medical problems relatively unique
to Japan, including the potential threat of life style-related diseases
such as cancer. In this course, such problems are addressed from the perspective
of both medicine and nursing. Emphasis is placed on the molecular biology,
pathology, immunology and surgical treatment for cancer. Yamagata University
is well renowned for its high-level emergency medicine, life science research
and Surgery. Introductory lectures on cutting-edge topics in the field
of life sciences are therefore included in this course. I hope you will
