The objective of this lecture is to give the participants an overview of Japan's mass media organizations and problems involved from a practical point on the front of journalism. Information will be provided about Japan's so-called press club system, including its historical background, functions and characteristics, and foreign countries' views about the system.
The students will also learn about Japanese politics, economy and society related to mass media.
The participants will also be briefed on the activities of U.S. and British media organizations compared to Japanese ones.
