This course is a semi-intensive course designed for students with no prior knowledge of Japanese. The objective of the course is to provide students with four basic language skills, listening, speaking, reading, writing, necessary for study and life in Japan.
By the end of the course, students should be able to understand and use everyday expressionsand basic phrases related to areas of most immediate relevance(e.g. personal details,shopping, getting around, making an appointment, visiting a friend, asking for a favor).

The objective of this course is to acquire basic reading skills and strategies at the lower elementary level, utilizing grammar and vocabulary studied in the integrated skill- classes. This course also aims for students to become used to reading texts consisting of Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji, and to enjoy it from the very beginning of the Japanese learning experience.
By the end of the course, students should be able to understand short texts on everyday themes, and to identify the main ideas of the text.
