YU Student is playing an important role in Spring Fujiwara Festival, Hiraizumi, Iwate

May 2, 2018

Miho Matsuda in Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, was chosen to play the role of Yoshitsune's wife, as they parade from Motsuji-Temple to Chusonji-Temple in the Spring Fujiwara Festival on May 3, 2018.  It is particularly spectacular, with many events including the festival's climax, the Yoshitsune's Eastern Flight Processional.

Matsuda, from Ichinoseki, neighbor city with Hiraizumi, said "I'm very happy to be chosen as an important role.  And I'd like to contribute to empower my hometown, Iwate."

At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Matsuda was first grade at high school in Iwate, and was struck by the earthquake.  She thought that "Although I was shocked at the damage around my house, there is certainly something I can do."  She started volunteering at the coastal area where the damage was serious as a start member of the volunteer group of her high school.

Matsuda's feelings towards the locals that sprouted at the time are still her major driving force for regional contribution, and she said, "I'd like to make it an opportunity to let everyone know about tradition and splendor of Iwate."

Currently, Matsuda, is challenging the analysis of ingredients of nutritious rice bran at the YU graduate school, said "My family and friends are very pleased with playing the role of Yoshitune's wife, and I would be happy if everyone enjoy this festival."
