To entrance examinees

Yamagata University provides as much support and care as we can to meet your needs to take the entrance examination or to study after entering the university due to your disability. If you are thinking of taking the entrance examinations for Yamagata University, we recommend consulting with us as soon as possible.

To students who would like to receive support for their studies

If you are a student who would like to receive support for your studies after entering the university, please contact the person in charge of instruction at your faculty as soon as possible. We will hold interviews with you, faculty and the Support Center to determine how we can support you. Please understand in advance that we will do our best but are not always able to meet all support requests.

Or if you are an enrolled student and have problems studying or need support, even if you don't know what kind of support you may request or need, freely visit and consult with the Support Center for Students with Disabilities.

Major support available

The following are the major supports available. Basically, available support is determined after holding interviews while specifically considering student needs. The support provided under the current system is note-taking on behalf of students with disabilities and transportation support.

Common support for students with disabilities

  • Consultation about support and care for classes and exams
  • Publication of documents requesting care (reasonable accommodation)

For students with
visual impairments

  • Conversion of teaching materials to text and magnification
  • Reading to students in person
  • Writing on behalf of students, etc.

For students with
hearing impairments

  • Guaranteeing information accessibility (transcription of speech into text by hand, etc.) in classes, etc.

For students with
physical impairments

  • On-campus transportation support
  • Ensured parking
  • Note-taking on behalf of students, etc.

For students with
developmental disabilities

  • Individual consultation according to student needs and issues

Flow for receiving support

1. Application for consultation

  • If you are a student who would like to receive support for studies or care after entering the university, please contact the person in charge of instruction at your faculty as soon as possible.
  • Please quickly ask for consultation after entering the university since it may take time to determine support content.
  • If you are an enrolled student, directly visit and consult the Support Center for Students with Disabilities.

2. Interview

  • At first, an interview with the teaching staff of the Support Center for Students with Disabilities will be held to check the current disability status and necessary support.
  • Then, the support will be determined after holding another interview with the student, the related teaching staff of the corresponding faculty/course and the staff of the Support Center for Students with Disabilities.

3. Start receiving support

  • After the support is determined, support will start.
  • To start receiving support from the Support Center for Students with Disabilities, it is necessary to submit a support application to the Support Center.
  • Even after starting the support, interviews will be held periodically to reconsider the support content.
