Instruction Based on Strengths Utilized Through Cognitive Traits

In schools, there are children who struggle with reading, writing, solving word problems in math, or performing accurate calculations. Additionally, there are children who want to get along with their friends but end up in conflicts, or who often forget things or lose their belongings.
In my research lab, we focus on finding tailored teaching and support strategies for children with such difficulties. Together with students, we explore ways to create individualized instruction, developing appropriate teaching materials and tools to support each child. We conduct case studies in which we design and implement these strategies.
Specifically, we administer several individualized tests to understand the background of each child's challenges and identify their cognitive traits. Based on this information, we conduct strengths-based individual instruction that utilizes the child’s abilities while taking into account their areas of difficulty. Just as every child is different, their ways of learning and memorizing also vary. Together with students, we consider the best approaches to help children lead enriching school lives.
